Compiled records of BIBB COUNTY, ALABAMA PIONEERS VOLUME I

Compiled records of BIBB COUNTY, ALABAMA PIONEERS VOLUME I Review

During the "Alabama Fever" period of United States history, early settlers migrated to Alabama from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee in search of more land to grow tobacco and/or distance themselves from the Revolutionary War.

Marriage prospects were limited in frontier Alabama so the children of these early pioneers often married the sons and daughters of their traveling companions and/or their nearest neighbors sons and daughters. This resulted in closely related families in communities. Many times, sisters and brothers from one family married the sisters and brothers of a neighboring family creating multiple family connections.

The pioneers settled and remained in Alabama for a number of years and most had 10 to 20 children, sometimes more with several wives. The descendants of these early Alabama pioneers moved further west in search of new frontiers around the time of the Civil War. They migrated to Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and even as far as California and Alaska. People throughout the United States of America may discover their roots trace back to early Alabama.
